Characteristics
The
thallus is green, errect, generally slender and moderately, calcified,
measuring upto 17 cm tall excluding large bulbous holdfast which extends
to 9.5 cm long; basal segments are cylindrical or cylindrical compressed,
sometimes barrel-shaped and fused, all togather forming a stipe supporting
4 to 5 separate segments; thallus becomes branched at the middle portion
but more frequently towards the terminal portion; branched segments
are slightly compressed to cylindrical near the base abruptly decreasing
in diameter from the middle to the terminal portion of the thallus
are 3.5 - 8 mm in diameter, 2-4 times longer than broad, becoming
more cylindrical and narrower towards the top, 1.25 - 1.55 mm in diameter,
3 -5 times longer than broad.
